Dance at Whitfield

Dance is a vibrant part of life at Whitfield State School, providing students with opportunities to express ideas, tell stories and explore different perspectives through movement and performance. Through weekly curriculum learning, school productions and our Dance Academy, students develop creativity, confidence, communication and collaboration. By creating, rehearsing and performing for others, students learn to take creative risks, respond to feedback and appreciate the contribution of every performer; building a strong sense of belonging while striving for their peak.

Dance is taught as part of The Arts in Queensland schools, with students learning through creating, performing and responding to dance. At Whitfield State School, as one of the only schools in Queensland that teaches Dance as a standalone weekly subject in a primary school, students explore how movement can communicate ideas, stories and emotions while developing coordination, creativity and confidence. They choreograph and perform dances, work collaboratively and reflect on their own and others' work. These experiences build students' understanding of dance across different cultures, times and places, while encouraging every learner to express themselves
