Sporting excellence programs
Students
who have been identified and possess and/or demonstrate particular advanced
skills are chosen into a squad of players. This squad partakes in skills-based
testing and a target group of students are selected and invited to participate
in the excellence program each term. Once selected in this program, students
will be coached by coaches who have been sourced from the wider sporting
community who have either played or coached representative sport. This program
is funded by the federal governments Sporting Schools program. Students can
participate in more than one excellence program if chosen in a school year. This
year the Sporting Excellence Programs are as follows:
Term 1 – AFL Excellence Program (Boys)
Term 2 – Netball Excellence Program (Girls)
Term 3 – Football Excellence Program (Girls and Boys)
Term 4 – Basketball Excellence Program
(Girls and Boys)
User pays sport programs
Throughout the school year, the school’s sporting partners run
sports specific programs each term and the programs are held outside of school
hours. These programs cater for students of all capabilities and the sessions
focus on fundamental skill development and fun.
These
programs are a user pay system which means students who attend pay a nomination
fee to the service provider (not the school) for student’s participation within
the program. Before each of these sports commences, relevant information will be
sent home and can be found on the school’s Facebook page. The following User
Pays Sport programs offered in 2017 include:
Term 1 – Football (Soccer) run by Jamie Gosling Soccer Academy
Term 2 – Tennis (Before School) run by Edge Hill Tennis Club and Basketball (After School)
Term 3 – AFL Auskick
Term 4 – Net Set and Go (Netball) and
Rugby Union (QLD Rugby)
